PTS wholeheartedly believes advocacy and education are the keys to creating a strong, diverse, and vibrant community. And part of this commitment is that everyone has equal rights and a fair access to services. This is why we have created the TransAction Initiative, a proactive project to engage and serve Ottawa’s trans community through ground-level programs and research.
By looking at the current services in Ottawa and researching the needs of the trans people in our community, we will learn how to best serve this marginalized group of people.
Our first initiative will be to launch an independent and energizing week of trans-focused events. In this way, TransAction will be a platform for the transgender, transsexual, and gender-queer people in Ottawa to use their voices and to celebrate.
As well, alongside the week of celebration, understanding, and learning, we will facilitate year-round workshops. Using this model, PTS will provide training and support to organizations and individuals who work to improve the lives of trans people. Through this, PTS will develop relationships and create community networks. We are ready to address the government, funders, and the community, in general, to foster a healthy dialogue about the needs of trans people in the Greater Ottawa Area. The growth and empowerment of the marginalized groups in our community is our concern.
Lastly, our aim is to publish and distribute a practical guide to working with gender-queer, transsexual, and transgender people, and with the trans community as a whole, to appropriate government, medical, legal, counseling, and other service-providing agencies in Ottawa.
Through these innovative and informational programs, PTS seeks to make a profound and fundamental change for the better in the services trans people in our community access. By our actions, we hope to champion social change and to contribute to positive empowerment in the lives of Ottawa’s trans people.
